Maa Durga is the embodiment of divine feminine energy and is one of the most popular goddesses in Hinduism. She is worshipped by millions of Hindus all over the world during the nine-day festival of Navratri.
Maa Durga has nine avatars, also known as ‘Navadurga’. Each avatar represents a different aspect of the goddess and her powers.
The nine avatars of Maa Durga are:
1. Shailaputri: The daughter of Himalaya, she is also known as Parvati or Hemavati. She is depicted holding a trident and lotus flower in her hands.
2. Brahmacharini: The penance avatar of Maa Durga, she is also known as Uma. She is often depicted holding a rosary and water pot.
3. Chandraghanta: The third avatar of Maa Durga, she is known for her courage and fearlessness. She has ten hands and is shown riding a tiger. Her right hand holds a trishul (trident) while her left hand shows the abhaya mudra (gesture of fearlessness).
4. Kushmanda: The fourth avatar of Maa Durga, she is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi. She is depicted as having eight arms and riding a lion. In her hands, she holds a kamandalu
